Press covers and pads are the surfaces that actually touch the garment, which makes them the cheapest components in a pressing line and the ones with the largest effect on the finished item.
Diagnosing a worn cover
Shine on dark fabrics, seam impressions coming through, pressing that is inconsistent across the buck, and steam that no longer clears evenly. All four are cover symptoms and all four are routinely blamed on the press or the operator. A cover is a fraction of the cost of either diagnosis being wrong.
Choosing a material
Fluorglass gives excellent non-stick performance and takes high temperatures, which is what demanding steam press work needs. Polyester is more durable underfoot and presses smoothly for general commercial work. Nomex is the answer where operating temperature rules the others out.
