Protect the plant, not the kettle alone

Tell us your water source and what steam equipment it feeds. Scale protection costs a fraction of the machines it protects.

We reply within one business day.

Unicorp supplies BIBO water bars and filtration systems across South Africa, from countertop units delivering instant boiling and chilled purified water to point-of-entry systems protecting a whole building.

The connection to everything else on this site

Hard water is the quiet destroyer of steam equipment. Scale forms on elements and inside boilers, insulates them, makes them work harder, and eventually fails them, and the failure looks like a boiler fault rather than a water problem. Most of South Africa supplies water hard enough for this to matter on a timescale of years rather than decades.

Two audiences, one category

Water bars serve offices, hotels and reception areas, where the requirement is purified water that tastes right and arrives at the temperature asked for. Filtration and scale inhibition serve the plant room, where the requirement is that expensive equipment survives its warranty and then some. We supply both.

Certification

BIBO equipment carries Watermark, CE and UL certification, and installation and support are local.

What it protects

Everything on this site that makes steam: industrial steam boilers, steam generator irons, Silter compact boilers and the industrial steam irons fed from them. A descaler at the point of entry is the cheapest component in any of those installations.

What this covers

Two different problems

Water bars
Countertop units delivering purified boiling and chilled water on demand. Offices, hotel back-of-house, staff areas and reception.
Whole-system filtration
Point-of-entry filtration for a building or a plant room, rather than at a single tap.
Scale inhibition
Descalers and scale inhibitors that protect boilers, irons and steamers from the hard water most of the country supplies.
Filters and service intervals
The BIBO Bar's MAXI carbon block filter changes every six months and its zapper purifier every twelve. The Block Alpha descaler cartridge changes every six months or 125,000 litres. All are held in Johannesburg.
Why it belongs here
Scale is the largest single cause of premature failure in steam equipment, and the cheapest thing to prevent.
Questions

Answers before you enquire

Why does a laundry equipment supplier sell water bars?
Because both halves of this category are the same problem. Scale is what destroys boilers, irons and steamers, and the filtration that protects a plant room is the filtration that makes drinking water pleasant.
Will filtration extend the life of my boiler?
Materially, yes. Scale is the dominant cause of premature boiler and element failure, and feedwater treatment is the standard defence.
How often are the filters changed?
On the BIBO Bar, the MAXI carbon block filter every six months and the zapper purification filter every twelve. On the Block Alpha descaler, the 550 g SILIPHOS cartridge every six months or after 125,000 litres, whichever comes first. Both are user-replaceable and stocked by Unicorp.
Is a water bar plumbed in or filled from bottles?
Plumbed inline to the main water line, so supply is unlimited. The BIBO Bar delivers three to four mugs of boiling water at 96 degrees and 1.5 litres of chilled water on demand, with a sequence lock on the boiling outlet.
Where does a descaler go and what does it do?
On the main line, immediately after the water meter or main inlet valve, so everything downstream is protected. The Block Alpha's SILIPHOS spheres release polyphosphate that holds calcium and magnesium in suspension instead of letting them deposit on elements and inside boilers. The minerals stay in the water; the scale does not form.
