A strip book is the paper answer to a receipt. The book holds numbered pairs: one half goes on the garment, the matching half goes to the customer, and the number is the only thing that has to agree when they come back for it. No point of sale system is needed, which is why it survives in shops that take walk-in work and hand-write the ticket.
The tags are printed with the same ClearType process as the piece tags, where the ink is embedded into wet-strength fibre paper rather than sitting on the surface, so the number is still readable after the garment has been through solvent and heat.
Standard and stripe styles differ only in appearance. The stripe is useful where a counter runs more than one book at a time and needs to tell them apart at a glance.
